Ritika was outstanding: knowledgeable, warm, funny and completely honest. She guided us through the narrow lanes with confidence and showed us a side of Mumbai we would never have understood on our own: the recycling workshops, the potters, the leather workers and the everyday life of the families who live there. She answered all our questions openly and made sure we met the community with respect, not as spectators.
We left with a completely different picture of Dharavi than the one we arrived with. It is a place of hard work, entrepreneurship and strong community, not just poverty. And it feels good to know that the profits go back into social projects in the area.
