Mumbai City Sightseeing & Dharavi Slum Tour

Neha and Shera were very friendly. Great tour! Getting around was very easy in their air conditioned car. All of the stops were interesting and Neha gave us lots of information.

Atik brought Mumbai’s top tourist sights to life with comprehensive and detailed commentary. He also took care to engage our two primary school / early high school aged children. We travelled in comfort and never felt rushed at any site.

Sneha walker is through the Dharavi suburb made famous by the film Slumdog Millionaire. We began with the laundry, plastics recycling and clothe-making industries of the area where she explained each in good detail. The plastics recycling in particular was really eye opening – since China banned this industry a few years ago a lot of used plastic flows through India. It’s a dirty and laborious job sorting through plastics of different types and colours, grading them, breaking them down into smaller pieces for making into lower grade products that go into the Indian market. We then went through a residential area. It was as actually quite peaceful and clean – a welcome reprieve from what we had seen, smelled and heard before. The homes, though tiny, were sturdy, well maintained and multi-storey.

Dharavi is called a slum, but really it is a suburb and group of communities who live in a marginalised, communal area and do work no one else wants to do. The bustling nature of the area and the pride they have in their work, homes and location was clearly evident. There were no ragged people or begging. Well worth the visit.

I had a fantastic half day 5 hour tour of Mumbai with Shruti (guide) and Hasan (driver). Both were extremely professional and engaging. When I mentioned I like to eat local food Shruti kindly made sure we stopped off at a local vada pac stand to try the “best” in the city. Would recommend.

We just completed a custom private tour of Mumbai through Abercrombie & Kent. Our tour guide was Derrick. This two day tour was fantastic, and included dozens of Mumbai highlights including the Gate of India, Victoria Terminus, Dharavi Slum, a hair raising train ride through Mumbai, the spice market, an open air laundry, and a visit to the Bollywood actors’ neighborhood on Bandar island. Derrick responded to my wife’s shopping request by identifying a couple of reputable retail outlets that specialized in the items she was seeking. He also hosted authentic Indian lunches and a mid-morning snack stop. We came away from the tour with a fairly good understanding of one of the world’s most complex cities. We recommend A&K and Derrick highly.

Very knowledgeable guide. Shared many historical tidbit which was very interesting! Went to many historical landmarks & was able to see a side of India i would never know. Definitely recommend
